In 2026, Henkel marks 150 years of innovation as a milestone that reflects not only longevity, but a deep commitment to progress, responsibility, and relevance in a constantly changing world.
Founded in 1876, Henkel began with a simple yet powerful idea: using Innovation to make everyday life better. That belief has remained at the core of the company ever since. Over a century and a half, Henkel has grown from a local detergent manufacturer into a global leader with a diverse portfolio of adhesive technologies and consumer brands.
What sets Henkel apart is its consistent ability to innovate with purpose. Innovation at Henkel is not defined solely by breakthrough technologies or well-known brands, it is defined by impact. From high-performance adhesive solutions that enable lighter vehicles and smarter electronics, to consumer products trusted in millions of households, Henkel’s innovations quietly support both everyday routines and complex industrial processes around the world.
Sustainability has become a central pillar of this innovation journey. Embedded into strategy and operations, Henkel’s approach goes beyond compliance or ambition statements. Through climate action, circular economic initiatives, and responsible sourcing, the company works to decouple growth from environmental impact while enabling customers and partners to achieve their own sustainability goals.
Equally important is the culture that sustains this progress. Henkel’s people-driven environment is built on trust, long-term thinking, and collaboration across functions and regions. This culture, supported by stable ownership and strong values, empowers teams to innovate responsibly and with a future-focused mindset.
Across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), rapid economic growth and ambitious national visions have created an environment where innovation plays a central role in shaping industries and societies. As countries across the region invest in diversification, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing, companies are increasingly expected to contribute solutions that support long-term development.
Henkel’s technologies contribute to this progress by enabling industries to operate more efficiently and sustainably. Advanced adhesive solutions support sectors such as packaging, electronics, automotive, and construction, helping manufacturers improve performance, optimize production processes, and reduce material use.
At the same time, Henkel’s consumer brands have become part of everyday life for millions of households across the GCC. Continuous innovation in product performance, formulations, and packaging ensures these products meet evolving consumer expectations while supporting Henkel’s broader sustainability ambitions.
Henkel’s roots in the GCC date back to 1982, when the regional detergent brand Dac was established as a joint venture between Saudi, Swedish, and German partners. The brand quickly gained recognition across the Gulf and laid an early foundation for Henkel’s presence in the region.
Building on this momentum, Henkel GCC was formally established in 1998, with Dubai, United Arab Emirates, chosen as the regional base. The UAE’s strong logistics infrastructure and its role as a regional trade hub made it an ideal gateway for serving markets across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
In its early years, Henkel’s presence in the GCC focused primarily on commercial operations and distribution, bringing global brands and industrial technologies closer to regional customers. As demand for advanced manufacturing solutions and consumer products grew, Henkel steadily expanded its regional footprint.
Over the following years, the company strengthened its presence through investments in manufacturing and innovation. Production facilities were established in Saudi Arabia, including plants in Riyadh and Dammam, supporting both Henkel Consumer Brands and Adhesive Technologies businesses. In the United Arab Emirates, Henkel developed additional operational capabilities, including an Adhesive Technologies production site in Umm Al Quwain and innovation centres in the country that support regional customers with product development and technical expertise.
Today, Dubai serves as a key regional hub for Henkel’s Middle East operations, bringing together commercial, technical, and innovation teams that support customers across the GCC and the wider region. From advanced adhesive technologies used in manufacturing and packaging to trusted consumer brands used daily in households, Henkel continues to combine global innovation with local expertise.
More than two decades after the establishment of Henkel GCC, the company remains committed to supporting the region’s continued growth by contributing technologies, partnerships, and innovations that align with the Gulf’s ambitions for sustainable development and economic diversification.
