Henkel Polybit Industries Ltd.'s Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) manufacturing facility serves as a cornerstone of construction chemical production in the UAE. Now fully owned by Henkel, the facility was established in 1995 and enhanced through a strategic joint venture with Henkel AG & Co. KGaA in 2005. This facility combines regional expertise with German engineering capabilities. It serves the IMEA region and global export markets including Southeast Asia and the United States, operating alongside its sister plant in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The UAQ facility operates three specialized production zones: bitumen production for waterproofing materials, polyurethane manufacturing creating foam-based waterproofing solutions, and construction chemicals production. Notably, polyurethane products are adapted for different markets, thicker sheets for domestic use to accommodate local humidity conditions, and varying specifications for export markets to meet international standards.
Henkel invests significant amounts of time, effort, and resources to ensure that the products produced are of high standards through various rigorous integrity and performance tests. The facility maintains comprehensive laboratory capabilities with sophisticated testing equipment designed to evaluate multiple performance parameters critical to construction chemical applications. These thorough testing procedures guarantee all products meet stringent quality standards for construction applications across diverse markets.
Building on previous successful sustainability initiatives, the UAQ facility is implementing a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) framework that treats and reuses all liquid waste streams, ensuring no liquid effluent is discharged while maximizing water recovery and minimizing environmental impact. This builds on successful ZLD implementations at Henkel's Chennai and Rudrapur facilities in India, as well as the Henkel Polybit site in Dammam, where treated wastewater is repurposed for internal landscaping and manufacturing processes. At UAQ, advanced purification systems will treat wastewater for reintegration into operations such as landscaping and equipment cleaning, aligning with Henkel's broader strategy to reduce waste generation and water consumption while enhancing operational circularity.
The ZLD framework, combined with the circular waste management model being expanded from Dammam, positions Henkel Polybit as a sustainability leader in construction chemicals across the IMEA region.
